Calling all designers worldwide! Explore the ground-breaking Bauhaus design movement, in the heart of Germany, through one and two week residential courses this summer.
Emerging in Germany, in 1919, the Bauhaus movement set out to reimagine the material world to reflect the unity of all the arts flourished during the 1920s and early 1930s, changing the course of art, crafts, architecture, and design as mass-production techniques saw a boom in building, manufacturing technologies and lifestyle and consumer goods. Founder Walther Gropius’s ideal was “art into industry” and students at the school, under the tutelage of figures such as Kandinsky, Klee and Albers, studied materials, colour theory, and formal relationships before taking specialized studies in fields including architecture, in which students were guided to design buildings with maximum efficiency and spatial logic.
This summer, the 2016 International Summer School, situated in a restored, 1930 Bauhaus-designed campus in Bernau, Berlin, will immerse students in the concepts and theories underlying Bauhaus ideals. With one or two week options available, this is a unique and exciting opportunity to engage with a team of art and design experts and delegates from around the world, to exchange ideas, experiment with new forms and approaches, attend lectures, collaborative workshops and explore the beautiful surroundings of this historic building in the heart of Germany, to absorb the history of one of the 20th century’s most important – and influential – aesthetic movements.
The courses run between August 7th-21st 2016.
