Jumeirah Messilah Beach Hotel & Spa has received the Green Globe certification in recognition of its dedication to sustainable practices.
Energy and water usage at the hotel is monitored on a continual basis and a 3% reduction target has been set. To reduce electricity consumption an in-room management system has been implemented which automatically shuts down power and closes curtains when guest rooms are unoccupied. In addition, energy efficient appliances are used in guest rooms and windows are tinted to lower heat absorbed from sunlight.
General Manager, Hakan Petek, said: “We are delighted to receive this certification which reinforces our commitment to sustainability in Kuwait’s community. Our sustainability management plan encompasses four key areas: environment, corporate social responsibility, quality of economic wellbeing of the community and the health and safety of our guests and stakeholders. Our colleagues across all departments are committed to achieving this plan without compromising the STAY DIFFERENT™ experiences that our guests enjoy when they stay with us.”
In line with water reduction strategies, low flow aerators, motion sensors and dual flush toilets have been installed within specified areas of the hotel. Outside, drought resistant native plants such as cactus, cycas and palms are grown within the gardens and landscaped areas.
An irrigation schedule for sprinklers is confined to designated hours and adjusted with the change of seasons.
To raise environmental awareness among colleagues and within the community, the hotel takes part in environmental initiatives each year. Colleagues previously worked in collaboration with members from the Kuwait Turtle Conservation Project to successfully release an injured green sea turtle back to its natural habitat.
