14.11.2016, 14:34

Georges visited Istanbul in 1933 and stayed at Pera Palace Hotel Jumeirah, he also wrote two magnificent books set in Turkey. The festival committee dedicated this year’s festival to Georges who is renowned as one of the most prolific writers in literary history and the creator of the fictional detective Jules Maigret.

Black Week runs from 1-3 December and the package is available for stays from 30 November - 4 December. Prices start at €325 per room for two nights, includes daily breakfast, an invitation to the festival's opening ceremony and all panel sessions.

This year’s festival will be in honour of Georges Simenon a famous Belgian author. Simenon visited Istanbul in 1933 and stayed at Pera Palace Hotel Jumeirah, he also wrote two books set in Turkey. The festival committee therefore decided to dedicate this year’s festival to the author who is renowned as one of the most prolific writers in literature history and the creator of the fictional detective Jules Maigret.

The festival will include panel discussions at the hotel with both local and international detective novel writers. Participants include Turkey’s foremost detective and mystery writer, Ahmet Umit and international writers including Philip Kerr, Sam Wilson, Tibor Fischer, Mari Jungstedt and David Walton. Last year the festival was dedicated to Agatha Christie in order to celebrate the 125th birthday of the legendary crime fiction writer. Legend has it Agatha Christie penned the famous novel Murder on the Orient Express in the hotel.

The hotel is well-placed to enjoy the modern centre and the historic old town, making it the perfect destination for both business and leisure. Designed by renowned local architect Alexander Vallaury, the building has hosted an impressive list of guests over the years including Ernest Hemingway, Agatha Christie and Alfred Hitchcock. Today Pera Palace Hotel Jumeirah maintains the elegant classical style that made it famous, with authentic 19th century features serving as a timeless focal point. Pera Palace Hotel Jumeirah was given ‘museum-hotel’ status in 1981 when, as a tribute to the founder of modern Turkey, Room 101 was converted into the Atatürk Museum.
