Dubai, 16 February 2015: Jumeirah Group’s colleague accommodation ‘Oasis Village’ in Dubai has broken a new record after becoming the first facility of its kind in the Middle East to gain the Green Globe certification.
Oasis Village achieved a compliance score of 77% against the Green Globe certification standard.
Home to over 4,500 Jumeirah colleagues, Oasis Village underwent rigorous testing during the audit which was conducted by the independent consultancy body Farnek, Green Globe’s preferred partner in the Middle East.
The facility was tested using the same stringent criteria that is used for hotels in the region and is now the first colleague accommodation facility in the Middle East to secure the Green Globe certification. Auditors were impressed with the range of recycling, sustainability and social responsibility initiatives implemented which encompassed all aspects of the operation at Oasis Village including transportation and landscaping.
Colette Leeman, Director of Colleague Services at Jumeirah Group, said: “Our colleagues are honoured and proud to be the first recipient of the Green Globe certification for the colleague accommodation category within the Middle East. We recognise the inevitable impact of our daily business operation on the environment and fully support initiatives that minimise that. We take responsibility to try and reduce the pressure on our community as much as possible and are committed to maintaining a sustainable colleague accommodation facility, our home away from home.”
To celebrate this landmark achievement the award was presented by Sandrine Le Biavant, Director of Consultancy at Farnek, to members of the Oasis Village team including Colette Leeman, Melanie Ortiz, Colleague Services Manager, Stephanie Robertson, Health, Safety and Environment Manager and George Gordon, Director of Facilities.
